Using acupuncture for nervous system regulation – the treatment of Anxiety, Stress & Trauma
I have undertaken extensive training in providing acupuncture treatment for stress, anxiety and the symptoms of trauma. I’ve studied with nationally and internationally renowned practitioners to ensure that she has a thorough knowledge of the nervous system from a western and Chinese medicine perspective and is therefore able to give the highest level of care possible in order to help calm and regulate the nervous system. I use an integrated approach to treatment combining acupuncture, polyvagal theory and somatic experiencing principles.
It has long been known that Acupuncture can be very relaxing – it is something that people often comment on. In fact, I often describe it as a ‘happy side effect’ that as well as treating the condition that people come into the Acupuncture clinic for, they also leave more calm and relaxed and often report better sleep after the treatment.
My observations in the clinic showed me that there was often a regulation of the person’s nervous system due to acupuncture which was key to healing. As I gained a greater understanding of the role the nervous system plays in stress, anxiety and the symptoms of trauma, I was able to understand how I could utilise this ‘happy side effect’ when people were struggling with stress, anxiety and trauma in acupuncture therapy.
I am finding there is more and more demand in the clinic for this type of acupuncture treatment as people are more and more stressed by the demands of modern life as well as the toll that global events are taking on them. At times, it can feel like there is no hope and that life an be overwhelming, but there are things that can help and acupuncture is one of them.
